Dilansir PC World , Jumat (26/11/2010), Steckl menggunakan proses yang dinamakan electrowetting, yakni menambahkan medan listrik ke tetesan tinta warna. Ini merupakan sebuah variasi teknologi yang digunakan pada kebanyakan layar e-ink atau tinta elektronik saat ini.

Setelah mendemonstrasikan penemuannya, Steckl memprediksi teknologi ini akan membuat layar e-Book lebih berwarna. Bagaimana pun, dikatakan Steckl hanya kertas jenis tertentu yang telah terbukti bisa menggunakan teknik seperti ini.

Menurut Steckl, dampak temuannya terhadap kertas bisa sangat besar. Tak hanya membuat pembaca lebih mudah untuk menyimpannya karena eBook menghemat tempat, tetapi juga murah dan ramah ingkungan.

Steckl saat ini tengah mencari investor komersial untuk mengembangkan teknologi temuannya lebih jauh lagi. Dia berharap bisa menghadirkan teknologi ini ke konsumen setidaknya tiga tahun lagi.

Dikutip detikINET dari Vancouver Sun, Jumat (19/11/2010), polisi pun menyarankan agar para orang tua semakin waspada dengan maraknya perdagangan anak. Apalagi via internet, bisnis kotor ini terkesan begitu mudah untuk dijalankan.

Terkait Craigslist yang jadi sarana beriklan sang 'germo cilik', otoritas Kanada sebenarnya sudah meminta pengelola situs agar menghapus kolom iklan seks. Di Amerika Serikat, bagian layanan iklan khusus dewasa ini sudah dihapus Craigslist karena tekanan otoritas setempat.

"Bagi saya, Craigslist sama sekali tidak memiliki regulasi. Banyak dari iklan-iklan itu memfasilitasi perdagangan manusia, tidak ada kebijakan atau pengeditan," ucap Rob Nicholson, Menteri Kehakiman Federal Kanada

Stuxnet Sempat Dicurigai Hendak Bikin Ledakan Nuklir

Stuxnet diduga kuat merupakan virus komputer yang dibuat untuk menyabotase fasilitas nuklir. Bahkan, pada awalnya, virus itu sempat dicurigai hendak membuat ledakan.

Seperti dikutip detikINET dari Wired, Selasa (16/11/2010), peneliti antivirus sudah cukup lama mencurigai target Stuxnet adalah fasilitas nuklir.

Nah, awalnya, peneliti antivirus mencurigai kemungkinan Stuxnet digunakan untuk sabotase Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Nuklir (PLTN) yang bisa menyebabkan ledakan.

Ternyata, seperti dikemukakan dalam penelitian Symantec, sabotase yang dilakukan kemungkinan adalah proyek jangka panjang yang menyebabkan kerusakan tanpa terdeteksi.

"Stuxnet mengubah frekuensi hanya untuk periode waktu yang singkat, dari 1410 Hz ke 2 Hz lalu ke 1064 Hz. Modifikasi ini pada dasarnya akan mensabotase sistem otomatisasi yang ada," sebut Eric Chien dalam blog resmi Symantec.

Serangan Tersembunyi

Peneliti Symantec, Liam O Murchu, dalam makalah terbarunya, mengatakan bahwa aplikasinya ternyata sangat terbatas. "Dibutuhkan sebuah proses yang berjalan terus-menerus selama lebih dari sebulan agar kode ini bisa menghasilkan efek yang diinginkan," tulis O Murchu.

"Jika kita melihat pada proses pengayaan nuklir (uranium-red), maka sentrifusanya harus berputar pada kecepatan tertentu selama periode yang lama agar bisa mengekstraksi Uranium murni," katanya.

"Jika centrifuge berhenti berputar pada kecepatan tinggi itu, proses isolasi isotop bisa terganggu.. dan Uranium yang dihasilkan akan memiliki mutu yang lebih rendah," O Murchu menjelaskan.

Menurutnya, proses jahat yang dilakukan Stuxnet bisa terpaut waktu yang lama, bahkan hingga tiga minggu. Artinya, lanjut O Murchu, Stuxnet memang ingin mengendap-endap di targetnya untuk waktu lama.

Bahkan jika terdeteksi ada gangguan operasional di fasilitas nuklir sasaran, Stuxnet telah dirancang agar administrator tidak mudah mendeteksi Stuxnet yang sedang bekerja. Tapi ternyata, Stuxnet sudah terlanjur terungkap sejak Juli 2010.

Trik Menghindari Aksi Skimmer ATM

Ada beberapa hal yang harus diperhatikan bagi pengguna ATM (Anjungan Tunai Mandiri) untuk menghindari aksi skimmer.

1. Gunakan ATM yang berlokasi di Cabang Bank atau dekat dengan keamanan, hindari ATM di lokasi terpencil walaupun di ATM terpencil tidak perlu antri.
2. Gunakan Ruang ATM yang benar-benar aman dan jauh dari orang-orang tidak dikenal.
3. Kalau bisa, gunakan ATM di lokasi yang sama sesering mungkin sehingga akan terlihat jika terjadi perubahan.
4. Amati sekeliling ruang ATM dan waspada ketika masuk ke dalam ruang ATM. Perhatikan bila ada hal aneh pada mesin ATM seperti goresan, bercak, selotip, bekas lem dan hal-hal mencurigakan lainnya.
5. Perhatikan mesin ATM tempat Anda melakukan transaksi, apakah ada alat skimmer atau kamera pengintai. Jika terdapat benda yang mencurigakan di mulut ATM, segera laporkan kepada Bank terkait.
6. Jangan mudah percaya dengan orang yang mengaku sebagai karyawan bank di ruang mesin ATM.
7. Waspada terhadap orang yang meminta tolong untuk transfer uang ke rekening yang tidak Anda kenal.
8. Ketika memasukkan PIN di ATM, tutup dengan jari Anda
9. Jaga kerahasiaan kartu dan PIN Anda, dan jJangan mencatat nomor PIN dimanapun, termasuk di kartu ATM karena rawan digunakan orang lain bila hilang, juga jangan pernah memberitahu PIN ATM Anda kepada orang lain.
10. Hindari menggunakan nomor PIN dari tanggal lahir atau nomor lain yang terkait dengan pengguna ATM.
11. Pastikan Anda mengambil kembali kartu ATM usai bertransaksi.
12. Jangan tinggalkan kertas struk di mesin ATM.
13. Jika kartu tersangkut atau tidak bisa keluar dengan usaha sendiri, tinggalkan saja karena orang lain tidak bisa menggunakan tanpa mengetahui PIN-nya.

Hal lain yang perlu diingat adalah :
1. Jika kejadian ini sudah menimpa Anda, maka jangan panik, segera blokir kartu ATM dan segera laporkan ke kantor kepolisian terdekat.
2. Para pelaku skimmer juga sering melancarkan aksinya pada hari libur agar korban tidak bisa langsung menghubungi Bank dari ATM bersangkutan.
3. Jangan sembarangan menghubungi nomor telepon yang mengatasnamakan pihak bank.
Simpan nomor telepon resmi dan alamat kantor bank Anda.
4. Hati-hati dengan sticker NOMOR TELEPON PALSU yang ditempelkan di ATM yang seolah-olah Nomor Telepon itu adalah Nomor Telepon Asli dari Bank yang bersangkutan. Jika Anda menghubungi Nomor Telepon ini jangan sekali-kali memberikan data PIN ATM Anda dan data pribadi Anda lainnya.
